A few predictions before the coming War against Iraq:
1. Saddam Hussein will continue to order his scientists to lie where possible and he will employ Iraqi intelligence personnel to deceive, distort and obfuscate the inspection process. (O.K. so this isn’t really a prediction it’s happening now.)
2. Saddam will again violate the Geneva Convention and place civilians adjacent to military equipment, facilities and troops. In addition to using religious and cultural landmarks as shields for his WMD programs. Remember the idiotic western journalists eating up the destroyed “baby milk” factory that turned out to be a biological weapons lab?
3. Saddam will continue to exploit the suffering he visits upon his citizens by blaming it on the United States.
4. He will pretend to be a devout Muslim when it's politically convenient.
5. Iraq will place Air Defense missile systems and associated equipment in and around numerous civilian areas including parks, mosques, hospitals, hotels, crowded shopping districts, ancient cultural and religious sites, and even cemeteries. They will also place rocket launchers next to soccer stadiums that are in active use, and park operational SAM systems in civilian industrial centers.
6. As with the Amiriyah Bunker-Shelter in the Gulf War, Iraq will use supposedly civilian defense shelters for military personnel and operations.
7. Iraq will continue to stage false child funerals to gain worldwide sympathy.
8. Iraq will continue to blame sanctions for pestilence, starvation and suffering within the country, but the fact is that in 1991, U.N. the Security Council attempted to create an Oil-for-Food Program that would allow Iraqi oil to be sold, with proceeds deposited in an UN-controlled account and used to purchase food, medicine, and humanitarian goods for the Iraqi people. Iraq rejected this proposal until 1996 and continues to defy the U.N. demands for disarmament.
9. Under Saddam Hussein, Iraq used chemical weapons from 1983 to 1988, including mustard gas and nerve agents. Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons in southern and northern Iraq against the Iranians, with whom they were at war from 1980-88, and against the Iraqi Kurds, as in the well-known chemical attacks in the northern town of Halabja. Mustard gas has long been known to cause cancers and is strongly suspected of causing birth defects. Which, of course, were falsely attributed to Gulf War attacks by the United States.
10. Saddam will continue his practice of extorting money from devout Muslims who wish to make the hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
11. Iraq claimed to have downed more than 200 coalition planes and "scores" of cruise missiles, and to have recovered one unexploded cruise missile, which would be reused. Iraq also claimed to have destroyed an aircraft carrier. In fact, 37 coalition planes were lost in the conflict and no aircraft carriers were destroyed. They claimed to have killed 6000 allied soldiers and said their SCUD attacks turned Tel-Aviv into a “ghost town”. Iraq has killed 6000 allied troops (claim made just four days after the coalition air campaign began). In fact, 148 U.S. troops were killed in the whole conflict and the damage caused by SCUD attacks was minor. They will continue the practice of lying about military victories in the coming conflict because they know the media will eat stories like that up.
12. Saddam believes that the United States is governed by public opinion and will try all the same methods to lie that he used when he got his butt kicked in the first Gulf War.

It appears that the U.N.'s Blix is willing to turn the blind eye like one of Milwaukie finest
Remember Konerak Sinthasomphone? The BBC recounts his story:
In the early hours of 27th May 1991, three police officers were called to a rundown suburb of Milwaukee by a 911 call from a couple of black teenage girls who had come across a young Asian boy who was running around naked and rambling incoherently.
Although the boy was unable to explain what had happened to him, Sandra Smith and her cousin Nicole Childress, both 18, were convinced he was genuinely scared of the tall white man who had followed him out into the street and was now trying to persuade him to come back to his apartment.
But when the police arrived they paid more heed to the white man than the two black girls. The man told the officers that the asian boy was 19 and was his lover, and convinced them they had simply had a lovers tiff.
They agreed to escort the teenager back to the man's apartment and left them to it, despite the protestations of the two girls.
The Asian boy was Konerak Sinthasomphone, and he was actually 14. The white man was homicidal pervert Jeffrey Dahmer. "Shortly after the police officers left, Dahmer strangled Konerak, abused his lifeless body and proceeded to dismember it, keeping some parts to eat and others as trophies."
We were reminded of this chilling account of police negligence by an Associated Press dispatch from Baghdad over the weekend. Reporters witnessed an Iraqi man running in front of the U.N. inspectors' vehicles:
As he waved his arms frantically, the first two vehicles swerved around him, but the third stopped, journalists said. "Save me!" he shouted in Arabic and English, after which he was allowed to enter the vehicle. He was carrying a copybook, witnesses said.
Appearing agitated and frightened, the young man, with a closely trimmed beard and mustache, sat inside the white U.N.-marked utility vehicle for 10 minutes. At first, an inspection team leader sought help from nearby Iraqi soldiers, but the man refused to leave the vehicle as the uniformed men pulled on his sleeve and collar.
"I am unjustly treated!" he shouted.
Then U.N. security men arrived, and they and Iraqi police carried the man by his feet and arms into the fenced compound, the journalists said. Ueki said the man was turned over to Iraqi authorities at a government office adjacent to the compound.
It seems safe to surmise that the young Iraqi man is suffering a fate similar to Konerak Sinthasomphone's. As for Dahmer, he was finally caught and convicted. He had murdered 17 young men, four of them after Sinthasomphone. Saddam Hussein, of course, is a homicidal pervert on a far greater scale than Jeffrey Dahmer. "Figures of a million dead Iraqis, in war and through terror, may not be far from the mark," reports the New York Times' John Burns:
The terror is self-compounding, with the state's power reinforced by stories that relatives of the victims pale to tell--of fingernail-extracting, eye-gouging, genital-shocking and bucket-drowning. Secret police rape prisoners' wives and daughters to force confessions and denunciations. There are assassinations, in Iraq and abroad, and, ultimately, the gallows, the firing squads and the pistol shots to the head.
Wisconsin lacks capital punishment, so Dahmer was sentenced to 15 life terms. He didn't even finish his first one; in 1994 a fellow prisoner murdered him. It's grimly satisfying to imagine Saddam meeting a similar end.
