To understand the current events and the situation in the world around us requires us to define things.

The word "terrorist" is bandied about by people far to often. A terrorist isn't someone you disagree with. A terrorist is someone who supports, plots, facilitates, or carries out violence against innocent non-combatants in order to create fear and further a political objective.

If it becomes clear to the terrorists that such acts of violence not only don't do any good but in fact worsen their predicament. These acts of violence will stop.

If we wish to establish a world in which human rights are universally valued, we have no choice but to attempt to extend the reach of democracy and capitalism to everyone. These are the universal equalizers. Give every human on the planet the right to express his or herself politically and give every human on the planet the right to create (and keep) the fruits of his or her labor. The result would be an unprecedented drop in violence and poverty. You will also see unimaginable progress in terms of technological innovation that will give us a rising standard of living we can scarcely contemplate.

Terror will not be defeated by running about sticking our finger in every leak that appears in the dam that keeps "them" from "us". Terror will only be defeated by exposing the population of the world to the possibility of peace and prosperity through democratic capitalism.
