Katrina.


It's political. Democrats know that Republicans are in charge and Democrats are gleefully exploiting the deaths and destruction involved with Katrina. It's sad and despicable really.

FACTS: Hurricane Katrina was the sixth strongest tropical storm ever and caused catastrophic damage along the coastlines of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. It caused $75 Billion in damages and the storm surge breached the levees seperating New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain. The storm killed 1,417 people. New Orleans is, on average, 8 feet below sea level.
It only survives on a normal day because of pumps, canals and levees. When natures wrath comes calling it is not a partisan matter.

People who watched the coverage of the disaster were shocked at the destruction and felt for the people of New Orleans. No Democrat, no Republican could do anything to stop this from occuring. The response was already in progress before the storm even started.

I suppose to avoid all this demagoguing the next time around, I submit that the federal government should require all residents to sign a waver prior to establishing residence in New Orleans. The waiver would act as an intentional relinquishment by the citizens of New Orleans of the right to state and federal disaster relief in the event of another hurricane. After all, the government has the right to condemn a building because it's unsafe.

Any Republican or Democrat who tells you New Orleans is "safe" in the event of a category 5 hurricane is lying to you. Just be honest and admit that if you choose to live below sea level, catastrophic atmospheric disturbances are going to have a profound and total effect on the place you live.

It has happened once. The world sat idly by while a cauldron of hate, intolerance and violence boiled over creating a dire crisis that required the response of the world. That was the 1930's. That cauldron was Hitler's Third Reich. The cauldron of the 1990's is the Middle East. Meanwhile, we are misled and distracted by the media:

Abu Ghraib...Abu Ghraib.

This is all the bleeding heart liberal media can talk about. This, when people are routinely kidnapped, beaten, raped and murdered in a middle east dominated by extremist islamic theocrats who are, apparently, free from accountability in the eyes of the mainstream media.

America and the free world has a problem. We have a region that is dominated by a violent, racist, subversive and damaging ethos. The people who live there have no tradition of free thought, little respect for human rights and a very poor understanding of modern economics. These factors combine with an abundance of a scarce resource and it all leads to a recipe for trouble.

On the other hand, we have a very short-sighted, materialistic and soft population who enjoy the fruits of the highest standard of living humanity has ever enjoyed without understanding where this luxury and opulence came from.

Many in the west are lazy. Many in the west are apathetic. Many in the west have an extremely short attention span.

If we don't deal with the problem in a clear, certain, and unequivocal manner it too will boil over and thousands will lose their lives fighting against Islamo-fascism.
